Members’ Tour 2025

Our annual tour of the churches, for members of the Trust, will take place on Saturday 6th September 2025, hosted by Joan Campbell. We will be visiting the churches at Dymchurch, Burmarsh and Newchurch. This tour is now fully subscribed.

Joan Campbell’s knowledge of the Romney Marsh churches is unsurpassed and she has that rare ability of making her talks both interesting and informative, as well as entertaining. Joan is the author of our guidebook, which is available to purchase online here.

In the morning there will be an opportunity to visit the church of St. Peter & St. Paul at Dymchurch, which has a magnificent chancel arch, a medieval scratch dial and several beautiful stained glass windows.

After the lunch, we will first of all visit All Saints’ Church at Burmarsh, where features of interest include an early Norman carved doorway and the original original fifteenth century tenor bell.

We will finish the tour with St. Peter & St. Paul at Newchurch, which has a fine Jacobean pulpit, the oldest on the Marsh, and many examples of fine wood carving.

Together the churches tell a story spanning 1,000 years of human history, including some of the earliest parts of Romney Marsh to be reclaimed from the sea and settled.
